About ICEA Chess @ West LA Tournament:

ICEA Chess @ West LA is ICEA Chess Monthly OTB USCF-rated Chess Tournament . It typically features four sections (U1000, 1000+, 1600+ and 2000+) to accommodate different skill levels based on the monthly supplement USCF ratings.

The tournament is a one-day event with four rounds for the 1000+ / 1600+ / 2000+ sections, running from 9 AM to 6 PM, with a time control of G/45;+5 (45 minutes for each player, plus a 5-second increment per move).

The U1000 section is designed for players with ratings below 1000, making it an excellent starting point for new players who haven’t established a USCF rating yet. This section has three double rounds from 9 AM to 4 PM, meaning players will play two games against the same opponent each round.

Sections / Format / Time Control:

• 2000+ Section: 4 Round SS,  G/45;+5
• 1600+ Section: 4 Round SS,  G/45;+5
• 1000+ Section: 4 Round SS,  G/45;+5
• U1000 Section: 3 Double Rounds SS, G/30;+5 (each player plays x2 games Black/White Vs. same opponent)

Round Time:

Play-up Policy:

1. Play-up option is available to players within 100 USCF rating points of the section they want to play in.
2. If you’re an unrated player who hasn’t played any rated games yet, you’ll need to start with the U1000 section. Keep in mind that your rating will be provisional within your first 25 rated games, provisioned rating could be used for section eligibility as well.
3. The peak rating within the past six months may also be considered.

Prize:

For each section:

• 6-10 Players: Top 3 players
• 11-20 Players: Top 4 Players
• 20-30 Players: Top 5 Players
• 30-40 Players: Top 6 Players
• 40-50 Players: Top 7 Players
• NOTE: >50 Players: The section will be splitted into two subgroups

(The prize payout will be based on the number of players in each section. In the event of a tie, the prize will be split among the winners with the same scores.)
