ICEA Chess Returns to the Wende Museum with a Successful Free Tournament

On Saturday (6/21/2025), ICEA Chess proudly hosted a free, all-ages chess tournament at the Wende Museum, marking our much-anticipated return to this historic venue. ICEA began organizing tournaments at the Wende in February 2023, but paused events in 2024 due to construction of the museum’s new facility. This weekend’s tournament was our first at the newly completed Glorya Kaufman Cultural Center, a modern three-story building adjacent to the museum—and it was a great success.

A total of 79 players, ranging from first-time competitors to experienced tournament veterans, participated in this four-section Swiss-format tournament. Games were held across two floors of the new space. The Rising Stars and U1000 sections competed on a theater stage on the first floor, offering a unique and focused atmosphere for younger and developing players. Meanwhile, the 1000+ and Open sections played on the spacious second floor, creating an ideal environment for more advanced competition.

Prizes were awarded to top performers in each section, including trophies, certificates, and a free entry to an upcoming ICEA Chess tournament. All participants also received a commemorative gift to recognize their efforts and enthusiasm.
